The award, given for the City’s comprehensive plan, honors efforts to create more sustainable and greener communities that reduce the impact of development on the natural environment and improve environmental quality. The plan, Cedar Hill Next, was adopted in March 2022 after an extensive public input process that began in 2019. In the early stages of development of the plan, it was evident that the community wanted to double down on being a city in a park and conserve the distinctive natural features that make Cedar Hill unique. The adopted plan increases the City’s open space goal from 20 to 25 percent and establishes a future land use map to reflect this policy goal. This award is more than a celebration of the plan.
