Texas Womens University issued the following announcement.
Texas Woman’s University psychology professors Lisa Rosen, Shannon Scott and Samuel Kim recently published “Bullies, Victims, and Bystanders: Understanding Child and Participant Vantage Points.” The book examines the complex systems involved in peer victimization and provides recommendations for bullying prevention and intervention programs.
“Bullies, Victims, and Bystanders” provides an in-depth exploration of the ways in which spectators can either fuel or deter bullying. Each chapter highlights a different participant role: Bully, assistant, reinforcer, outsider, defender and victim, while also investigating the influence parents and teachers have on peer group dynamics.
“As editors, we aimed to create a unique resource on the subject by revisiting and then expanding upon the existing knowledge base surrounding bullying. We began with a foundation in classic research and then integrated new findings, paying special attention to technology, social media and the rapid modernization of our society,” said Rosen. “We believe the text provides valuable insights for teachers, educational psychologists, researchers and parents alike.”
“Bullies, Victims, and Bystanders” is available in e-book and paperback formats through publishers Palgrave Macmillan and most major retailers.
About the editors
Lisa H. Rosen, Ph.D., is associate professor and director of the undergraduate psychology program at TWU. Her research focuses on children’s peer relations. Her recent work centers on how parents and teachers can best support victimized youth.
Shannon R. Scott, Ph.D., is professor and department chair of the psychology and philosophy department at TWU. Her research focuses on body image, weight stigma, anti-fat attitudes and the consequences of peer victimization.
Samuel Y. Kim, Ph.D., is assistant professor and director of the specialist program in school psychology at TWU. His areas of research interest include peer victimization, assessment and the experience of Korean Americans.
