CEDAR HILL POLICE REPORT DECLINE IN CRIME INDEX RATE FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT YEAR
On Tuesday, Police Chief Ely Reyes delivered the Police Department’s 2021 annual report to the Cedar Hill City Council, which showed that the crime index rate in the City decreased 13 percent in 2021. 2021 marked the fifth straight decrease in the crime index, falling 49 percent from 2016 to 2021. Cedar Hill continues to have the lowest crime rate in the Best Southwest region.
“Many cities across the nation and the region saw a marked increase in violent crime and gun-related crime in 2021. Fortunately, Cedar Hill did not experience that same level of increase, and we continue to have the lowest violent crime rate and the lowest property crime rate in our area,” said Chief Reyes. “I am thankful for the proactive policing efforts of our officers and the dedicated work of our professional staff to help keep our community safe.”
“The safety of our community is always a top priority in Cedar Hill,” says Mayor Stephen Mason. “The decrease we have seen in the crime rate over the last five years is directly related to the way that our police department engages the community. Through door-to-door neighborhood walks, National Night Out, an annual youth summit, crime watch meetings, our Police & Community Team, and continuous relational policing, the department has created active partnerships with the community that work to keep us all safe.”
