We are getting reports that Cedar Hill residents have received phone calls where the caller ID shows "972-291-5181" but the caller’s voice has a distinct foreign accent. The caller has stated he is with Cedar Hill Police Department and that the resident had an outstanding arrest warrant for unpaid credit card bills and asked for payment in Apple gift cards. We will NEVER ask for payment of an arrest warrant in Apple gift cards. We DO, however, have city volunteers who assist our marshal's office from time to time, but this is easily verifiable.
If you receive such a call, ask for the person's name and badge number and then call our Dispatch center's non-emergency number at 972-223-6111 and ask to be connected with an officer on duty. If you have a legitimate warrant, the officer on duty can verify that for you and give you instructions on how to make payment arrangements.
